Must Watch Hindi Movies .. Continued

Adding some more great movies to Must Watch Bollywood Movies list.....

11 Khosla Ka Ghosla!: The best part about this movie is so simple and still very much appealing. It's a about a middle class family with sir-name Khosla. Someone captures their plot and they struggle to get it back. I love the song "chak the patte".

12 Darna Mana Hai: Awesome thriller by Ram Gopal Verma. There are six separate stories in the movie, all are great. I liked the most, one with Saif Ali Khan and Boman Irani..... "Cigarette peena mana hai sir".

13 Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro:Classic comedy movie. Two guys try to bring down a corrupt politician. The best scene of the movie is the Mahabarat scene.

14 Parinda: Great performances by all who acted in the movie. This is one of the rare movies in Hindi cinema where hero and heroine die at the end of the movie (If you haven't watched this movie and you are planning to, then sorry for telling you the end, but even if you know the end you will enjoy the movie).

15 Chashme Buddoor: A romantic comedy film. I liked the first half of this movie very much, especially the first scene.

16 Swades: We, the People: Swades, great patriotic movie, is a story of an engineer working for NASA. He comes to India to bring his nanny to US. He sees the electricity problem of villagers, stays in village to solve the problem and never goes back. A simple and quality movie.

17 Zakhm: This movie is about racism. A Hindu boy loves a Muslim lady but cannot her. Ajay Devgan did a great job in the movie.

18 Gardish: This movie is about a guy who's father is a constable, and the father wishes that his son will be a senior police officer one day and he will salute him, but circumstances make the son criminal. The movie shows how atrocities can ruin everything in one's life. Stupendous performance by Jackie Shroff.

19 Moksha:Salvation: Great work but Indian public couldn't appreciate it :-(, don't know why?

Must Watch Hindi Movies

When I was writing about A Wednesday in my last blog, I started thinking about all the great movies made in Bollywood. I prepared a list of movies I liked most. There are many Bollywood movies which are really amazing and it was difficult to prepare a short list. Also, it was very difficult to rank hem because these movies are of different genre. I am not a great connoisseur of art. So, the prepared list is not the perfect one for sure. Still, I have tried to collect movies which have created a great effect on Indian Cinema and which I personally liked most.

1 Lagaan: Lagaan is the third Hindi movie nominated for Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The movie is about a cricket match between Indian farmers and British army. Movie has very well used all the fundas of cricket to make it a great thriller.

2 Sholay: Sholay is the best masala movie of Bollywood. It's a great mixture of comedy, action and music. I liked comedy part the most, especially jail scenes and mausi scene

3 Bandit Queen: Bandit Queen is a true story of Phoolan Devi. The best part about this movie is it's very much realistic. It seems like a recording of tragedies that happened with Phoolan Devi.

4.Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar: This movie is about losing and winning in a inter-college cycle race. The way, movie has presented conflicts between poor students and rich students, is awesome.

5 Taare Zameen Par: Another great movie by Amir Khaan. It's a story of an 8 year old child who suffers from dyslexia. Rather than helping him, his teachers and classmates subject him to constant humiliation. His parents also do not understand his problem and expect, him to excel in studies.

6 Pyaasa: This movie is one of rare and great symbolic Bollywood movies. The movie tells the story of struggling poet, trying to make his works known in post-independence India. One of the great movies, directed by Guru Dutt.

7 Gol Maal: Great work by Hrishikesh Mukherjee (director), Amol Palekar(Lead Actor) and Utpal Dutt(Actor in supporting role). These guys are the experts for drama movies. Gol Maal is a great drama about a guy trying to be two guys.

8 Saaransh: One of the great art movies by Mahesh Bhatt. Anupem Kher plays key role in the movie. He plays a father who's son has died in abroad. Movie shows struggles of an old man when he tries to help an unmarried pregnant girl.
Anupem Kher was young when he played the role of an old man. He did it very well and got Filmfare Award for this movie.

9 A Wednesday: Please see my last log

10 Andaz Apna Apna:This is the best Indian comedy movie, I believe. This movie is about two guys who fight for marrying a rich girl. It turns out that girl is not rich, but was pretending to be rich.

This list is very short and doesn't include many Bollywood movies which could have been included, I am going to add some more movies to above list very soon, in my next blog, .....

Great work Neeraj Pandey

We went for a team party today. Before going to party, we were thinking, where to go, what to do. Vivek, one of my teammates, suggested to watch movie "A Wednesday".   When I heard "A Wednesday", image of movie "Sunday" came to my mind and I said NO!!  immidiatly without even thinking that name doesn't matter --"Sunday" is the worst movie I have seen in last 1 year. Then, Vivek told us about the star-cast of the movie. Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher are there in in movie. So, we decided to watch "A Wednesday".

Great work Neeraj Pandey, Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher. Movie is really striking, great concept and great performances. One more thing that I liked about the movie is, songs were not there. Whenever I watch a hindi movie in theatre, I always wish that I had remote and I could skip songs.

The only thing that I didn't like about the movie is background music. Background music was too loud and not so good to be that much loud.

Anyways, the movie was one of the rare and great hindi movies. Keep it up Bollywood.

Thanks Vivek for suggesting such an spectacular movie.

Why don't we make our voting system elecronic?

I have never voted. I know it's wrong. Reasons: my parents were not supportive, because of possibility of riots during election period; there is always a big queue of people, waiting to vote.

Many people in India don't vote due to same reasons.

Why don't government make it comfortable for people to vote. Why don't government develop electronic voting system. Possible issues, I see with e-voting:

People don't know how to use computers:
This is an issue in rural areas. But, in metro cities it should not be such a big issue. We can start with Hyderabad, Bangalore, New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai and then we can teach people in rural areas.

Security Issues
These issues are there with many things. But, still online banking is used everywhere in metro cities why not electronic voting.

Difficult to implement
I agree this is an issue, but we have to find a solution. People have proposed solutions.

I don't see any strong reason against e-voting.

Why don't railway stations announce station name?

Recently, I went to home for celebrating Rakshabandhan. Going home is really great. Although there is a flight from Hyderabad to Agra --started recently-- I go to Agra by train because cost of flight from Hyderabad to Agra is always INR 9000+, I don't know why such a high cost for this particular route. Train journey takes 23 hours. In such a long journey you meet different people; you sleep a lot, you read a lot and when journey is finished you again sleep a lot but sleep@home is altogether different from sleeping in train or napping in office. This is the sleep that everyone wishes for.

My aim here is not to write about home or sleep or flight vs train. Sorry for wandering from the main topic, I was just writing something to make a base for what I wanted to write about. From the time I moved to Hyderabad, my journeys have become longer. Most of the time I travel in train. Whenever train stops at some station, people keep bugging other people asking about the name of station. There are many people, you will find in train, who desperately wait for an opportunity to disturb others. People ask questions in different styles. Some people ask "Which station is this?" Some people will wake up from their sleep and will say "Kahan per khadi hai train itni der se?", some will say "This train is running too late, stopped again, which station is this now?", some will say "This rain is always like this. This station doesn't seem to be big station. This train stops at every possible damn station. BTW, which station is this?" When people ask such questions they disturb at least one person who might have have been reading or sleeping. Well, I know, as an Indian citizen, everybody has got all rights to disturb others, especially in trains. My point here is, when train reaches a railway station, stations don't announce station/city name. Only at Bhopal railway station, I observed that speakers were announcing "Welcome to Bhopal". This is good. It saves a lot of people from getting disturbed. Why don't other stations do this?
